New Student Orientation

Step One: Complete New291³Ô¹Ï

Starting strong is important!  New291³Ô¹Ï is your first step in preparing for 91³Ô¹Ï. Complete this self-paced online orientation before choosing your classes. It will introduce you to college resources, student life, and what to expect in your first semester.

Step Two: Seek Advising and Register for Classes

Once you’ve completed New291³Ô¹Ï, it’s time to plan your classes and get ready to register. We suggest beginning with ADV 100, a virtual group advising session aimed at assisting you in exploring your academic pathway and planning your schedule. New students will receive an email invitation to schedule an appointment for ADV 100, tailored to their academic journey. For further details, please visit 91³Ô¹Ï’s advising website.

  • Complete ADV 100 — the preferred next step for advising and registration prep.
  • Explore the Enrollment Guide — a detailed resource to walk you through each part of the enrollment process.
  • Meet with an Advisor — schedule an appointment (virtual or in-person) for personalized guidance.
  • Register Early — early registration gives you the best choice of classes and times

Step Three: Complete the New Student Mandatory Training

Before registering for your first semester, you’ll need to complete a quick online training in Canvas. This one-time training is required by Virginia law and covers two important topics: Human Trafficking Awareness and Prevention and Campus Safety and Emergency Preparedness.

It only takes about 12 minutes to complete — and completing it now will help you avoid any delays when you register.

How to complete the training:

  • Log in to my91³Ô¹Ï and select Canvas.
  • Open the New Student Mandatory Training course.
  • Watch the two short training videos.
  • Submit both attestations confirming you’ve reviewed the content.

Why this matters:

  • Without this training, you’ll have a registration hold on your account.
  • Once completed, the hold is automatically removed within four hours.
  • You only need to do this training once — if you’ve already completed it, you’re all set!
