WEL 150 - Welding Drawing and Interpretation (2 CR.)

Course Description

Teaches fundamentals required for successful drafting as applied to the welding industry. Includes blueprint reading, geometric principles of drafting and freehand sketching, basic principles of orthographic projection, preparation of drawings and interpretation of symbols. Lecture 1 hour. Laboratory 2 hours. Total 3 hours per week.

General Course Purpose

WEL 150 is designed to prepare the students in interpreting welding blueprints and weld symbols, both written and graphic.

None.

Course Objectives

Upon completion of this course, the student will be able to:

• demonstrate a proficient knowledge in the process used to detail shop drawings test
• demonstrate an ability to use various reference materials such as catalogs, specifications, and handbooks
• demonstrate a proficient skill in estimating material requirements using sample shop drawings
• demonstrate a thorough knowledge of the dimensions of structural materials

Major Topics to Be Included

• The interpretation of the A.W.S. graphic and written weld symbols
• Demonstration of the use of architectural and structural contract drawings and specifications in the development of shop drawings
• The use of catalogs to determine types of structural products used in various shop drawings
• Explanation of the manual of steel construction and how it is applied to the welding blueprint
