WEL 126 - Pipe Welding I (3 CR.)

Course Description

Teaches metal arc welding processes including the welding of pressure piping in the horizontal, vertical, and horizontal fixed positions in accordance with Section IX of the ASME Code. Lecture 2 hours. Laboratory 3 hours. Total 5 hours per week.

General Course Purpose

WEL 126 is a basic course in pipe welding, where the student will learn basic theory and practical application in accordance with Section IX of the ASME Code. The experienced welder, interested in learning to weld pipe, will find WEL 126 educational. Course Prerequisites/Co-requisites The prerequisite is WEL 122 Welding II (Electric Arc) or division approval

Course Objectives

Upon completion of this course the student will be able to:

• demonstrate proficient knowledge of preparation and set-up of pipe spools
• demonstrate their technique of welding in the 2G and 5G positions
• demonstrate their knowledge of the Qualification Test requirements
• demonstrate their knowledge of safety and set-up in the lab areas at all times
