MUS 232 - Advanced Class Voice II (2 CR.)
Course Description
Continues the expansion of appropriate vocal technique and repertoire. Continues from MUS 131- 132. Lecture 1 hour. Laboratory 2 hours. Total 3 hours per week.
General Course Purpose
The course provides the student with a rounded knowledge of singing from the elements of good, basic sound production to problems that arise in various periods of vocal literature. The student will also learn to perform as a soloist or as a group performer.
Course Prerequisites/Corequisites
Prerequisite is MUS 131-132 - “ Class Voice I-II” or permission of the instructor.
Course Objectives
The student w ill learn intermediate singing techniques, diction, and vocal repertoire. These w ill be presented in a practical manner and w ill help the student in singing as a soloist or as a group performer

- Elements of proper breathing
- Elements of tone production
- Elements of voice placement
- Elements of good diction (English, French, German, Italian)
- Elements of phrasing and melody shape
- Elements of effective presentation
- Expansion and selection of vocal repertoire

- Discussion of recitals and application to class problems
- Presentation of material to the intermediate singer
