DNH 120 - Management of Emergencies (1 CR.)
Course Description
This course presents a study of the various medical emergencies and techniques for managing emergencies in the dental setting. Additional practical applications and simulations of emergencies may be conducted to enhance basic knowledge from the lecture component. Lecture 1 hours per week.
General Course Purpose
This course is designed to provide students with information on the signs, symptoms, treatment, and equipment that is necessary to render care for common emergencies that can occur in the dental office.

None.
Course Objectives
Upon completing the course, the student will be able to:
- Discuss the role of the dental hygienist during an emergency in a dental office.
- Describe office preparation and preventive measures for medical emergencies.
- Discuss the importance of a thorough medical history when dealing with medical emergencies.
- Describe the signs and symptoms of medical emergencies that can occur in the dental office.
- Discuss other emergency considerations that can occur in the dental office.
- Discuss the objectives, types of treatment, and complications for basic life support.
- Discuss the management of dental emergencies.
- Describe the signs and symptoms of dental emergencies that can occur in clinical practice.
- Discuss the management of pediatric emergencies.
